Ball moves in projectile motion launched horizontally.
Look this scene from from edge, just the ball's vertical motion.
Initially it starts from rest then accelerates until it hits the ground.
So, initial velocity u= 0m/s
time of fall = 0.5 sec
Its falling downwards so acceleration due to gravity (g)=9.8 m/s2
For falling objects, we have
H=ut+1/2gt2
=0X0.5 + 1/2 X9.8X (0.5)2
=0+1/2 X 9.8 X 0.25
=1.225
So, height of the bassball player is 1.225m.
