A cookie company uses one cup of sugar for every 40 cookies it makes.

Let S represent the total number of cups of sugar used, and let N represent the number of cookies made. Write an equation relating S to N, and then graph your equation using the axes below.

N will be a function of S since the number

of cookies made is dependant on the amount

of sugar used.

 

N = 40S,   S ≥ 0

 

This shows that for every cup of sugar we can make

40 cookies.  To graph just plot some points.

This will be a line with slope of 40.

Note that it can start at the origin (0,0)

and rise to the right as S increases,

but will not move to the negative side

since we will never use less than 0 

cups of sugar or make less than 0 cookies.
