Yolanda decided to swap her cassettes for compact discs. She exchanged 24 cassettes with Manuel, 2/5 to ann, and the remaining 42 cassettes with Chung. How many did she start with ?

66 was 3/5 of what she had at the beginning (because she had 2/5 remaining)

 

66 = (3/5)c     multiply both sides by 5

330 = 3c         divide both sides by 3

110 = c

 

She started with 110 cassettes.
