1. Snowboarders use angles measures to describe their flips and spins. Explain what they would mean to say by each statement.

 

a. I did a 720            

b. I did a 540

c.I did a 180

720, 540, and 180 are the degrees of different flips or spins.  One full rotation = 360^o. 

• 720^o = 360^o*2= two full rotations
• 540^o = 360^o*1.5 = 1 1/2 rotations
• 180^o = 360^o*(1/2) = half a rotation

360° is one complete revolution

 

720° = 2(360°), so two complete revolutions

 

540° = 360° + 180°, so one and a half revolutions

 

180° = (1/2)360°, so one half revolution
