Hi Axel!
For these kinds of word problems, you want to translate everything from words to math. Substitute 'x' for 'a number.' The sum of... means that the addition takes place before the multiplication.
3*(x+8) = 4+2*(x+6)
From there you distribute and solve:
3x+24 = 4+2x+12
x+24 = 16
x=-8
Does that make sense?
