 you have 30 people, hot dogs buns come in package of 12, hot dogs in package of 8, how many packages of each need to be bought and how many hotdogs will each person get without have any left overs

We want the number of buns to be equal to the number of "dogs," and feed 30 people. We must find the LCM of 12, 8, and 30.

 

12 = 2 · 2 · 3

8 = 2 · 2 · 2

30 = 2 · 5 · 3

 

The LCM must contain at least one of each different factor. Here they are 2, 3, and 5

And it must contain each of the factors as many times as each appears in the numbers.

 

So LCM = 2 · 2 · 2 · 3 · 5

 

So we should get 120 puns (10 packages) and 120 dogs (15 packages) to give each person 4 hot dogs.
