Bob sold x sweaters, which cost $9.50.
Bob sold y coats, which cost $14.
If Bob sold 4 times as many coats as sweaters, that means:
...if he sold 1 sweater, then he sold 4 coats;
...if he sold 5 sweater, then he sold 20 coats;
...if he sold x sweaters, then he sold 4x coats= y coats.
So all together he sold (x sweaters) at ($9.50 per sweater) and (4x= y coats) at ($14 per coat)...
And that tells us how much money all together he made, which is $2882.00
Get rid of the words, translate them into math, and we have
(x)*($9.50) + (4x)*($14)= $2882
(9.5)(x) + (4*14)(x) = 2882
9.5x + 56x = 2882
65.5x = 2882
When you find x, that tells you you many sweater he sold.
From there, how do we figure out how many coats he sold?

Meira is right. 2882/65.5 = 44, not 34.83969. You must have mispunched 2282 instead of 2882.
