The meatloaf you are creating calls for 2 pounds of hamburger, ¼ pound of bread and ½ pound of onions for one dish. If hamburger is available in 5 kg packages, bread is available in ½ kg packages and onions are available in 1 kg packages. How many packages of each ingredient are needed to create 10 meatloaves?

 

Can someone please answer this question and guide me through the process please.

The first thing that you need to do is either convert kg to pounds or pounds to kg. (By the way, I will use parentheses to denote multiplication) 

1 lb (pound)=0.453 kg

1 kg= 2.204 lb

 

So to convert 2 lb hamburger to kg multiply 2 by .453

(2lb)(.453kg/lb)=0.906kg of hamburger

 

To convert the onions multiply 1/2 by .453

(1/2lb)(.453kg/lb)=0.227kg of onions

 

To convert the bread multiply 1/4 by .453

(1/4lb)(.453kg/lb)=0.113kg of bread

 

Now multiply each of the needed ingredients by 10, to get how much of the ingredient you need:

(0.906kg/meatloaf)(10 meatloaves)=9.06kg of hamburger

(0.227kg/meatloaf)(10 meatloaves)=2.27kg of onions

(0.113kg/meatloaf)(10 meatloaves)=1.13kg of bread

 

Now divide the needed ingredient by how much is in one package

9.06kg/5kg=1.812 packages hamburger

2.27kg/1kg=2.27 packages onions

1.13kg/0.5kg=2.26 packages bread

 

Since you can't buy a fraction of a package, you must round each answer up to the nearest whole number.

3 packages onions

3 packages bread
