help with graded average and what i need for final

My total grade right now is 85% and my final is 15% i need to know what my weighted average is now and what i need on my final to get an a. Tests 60% 100,88,86,79,76,76,74 Homework 25% 100. These are everything I have now ( current weighted average) I need to know what I need on my Final to get an a . And what my grade is now

Right now, you have 100% of the Homework 25%. That means you have 100% of those 25 points, or 25 total homework points.

 

Right now, you have (100+88+86+79+76+76+74)/700 = 579/700 = 0.827 = 82.7% of the Tests 60%. That means you have 82.7% of those 60 points, or 60(.827) = 49.63 total test points.

 

You could have a total of 25+60 = 85 points so far. You have (25+49.63)/85 = 0.878 = 87.8% of those points. That means, right now, your grade is 87.8.

 

I'm going to assume that a 90 is an A, though many schools do it differently. Right now, you've got 25+49.63 = 74.63 points. To get to 90, you need 90 - 74.63 = 15.37 points. The final is worth 15%, which can only give you a total of 15 points. So, even if you get a 100 on your final, you'll have a grade of 89.63. If your school rounds up, that would be an A.

 

Bottom line is, you've got a solid B or B+ right now. To get an A, you'll need a perfect score on your final.

The average of your test scores is (100+88+86+79+76+76+74)/7 = 82.71%

 

To calculate your current weighted average, we use the following calculation:

 

[.60(82.71) + .25(100)]/.85 = 87.8%  This is your current grade, without the final exam included.

 

To determine what you would need on your final exam to earn an A in the class (I'm assuming that is 90%), let x represent your final exam text score and use the following equation:

 

.60(82.71) + .25(100) + .15x = 90

 

Simplifying, we get:

 

74.63 + .15x = 90

 

.15x = 15.37

 

x = 102.5%

 

So sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it will be mathematically impossible for you to get an A in your class.  The good news is that you've pretty much locked in a B for the class!  You'd have to get less than a 35.8% on the final to drop to a C and, judging by your test scores, I don't think that's going to happen.  Good luck on your exam!
