There are 8 major planets in our solar system, in the order from closest to furthest from the sun:
- Mercury
- Venus
- Earth
- Mars
- Jupiter
- Saturn
- Uranus
- Neptune
Pluto used to be considered a 9th planet, but its status was downgraded in 2006 to a dwarf planet. There are other dwarf planets that have been discovered in the asteroid belt and beyond Pluto:
- Pluto
- Eris
- Haumea
- Makemake
- Ceres
- Sedna
