We evaluated an expression (6.5y + 2) / (x + 2) where x= 4 and y = 3 and came up with the answer 3.583 but textbook has different answer.

We want to verify if the answer is 3.583 because the textbook states the answer to the problem is 4.3 and I want to know if  we are doing something wrong, or if the textbook printed the answer incorrectly.  Thank you!

Note to Caroline:  I have often sent errata to publishers (especially if they have a web site with errata listed or if the book is worthy of another edition).  Good publishers and authors really appreciate this because it keeps other students from having unnecessary problems -- Look for web site errata!

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your assistance with our question.  My son was advised to try the faster track Math in the Fall, 7th grade, but is a couple of chapters behind in the pre-algrebra book he will be learning from, starting September.  I just wanted to make sure he had solved in correctly.  Thanks again - we appreciate it!

Have a great evening,
