Checks deposits

Maria wishes to make a deposit. She has these bills: 6 ones, 4 fives, 5 tens, and 3 twenties. She has 6 nickels, 12 dimes, and 12 quarters. Maria has checks for $55.75 and $89.75. Maria wants to receive $10 in cash. What should she enter on the TOTAL line?

She wants to deposit the checks.  She has two of them with different amounts, so we can add them to get the total deposit amount.

 

Total deposit checks = $55.75 + $89.75 = $145.50

 

 

This is what she has in the account.

 

6 ones = $6

4 fives = $20

5 tens = $50

3 twenties = $60

 

6 nickels = $0.30

12 dimes = $1.20

12 quarters = $3.00

 

Add up these amounts.  The total comes out to 140.50

 

Deposit means to add to her account.  Add up these two totals.

 

$145.50 + $140.50 = $296.00

 

She wants to receive $10 in cash.  This means that $10 will be a withdraw.

 

$296.00 - $10 = $196.00

 

 

If she puts $196.00 in the total line to make the deposit, the clerk will give her $10 back in cash. when she asks for it.
