Applying SImple Math to Everyday Life Activities
The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum of twice the length and twice the width. Since we want to find the length and width, we assign variables for them.
width = x
length = 2x - 7
Perimeter = 136 m
Write an equation using the formula for perimeter and the variables.
2x + 2(2x - 7) = 136
2x + 4x - 14 = 136
6x - 14 = 136
6x = 150
x = 25
Substitute this value of x into the width and length.
width = 25 m
length = 2(25 m) - 7 m
= 50 m - 7 m
= 43 m
