I'll assume you meant: x^2 - 5x + 4 = 0
You may (1) use the quadratic formula or (2) think of two numbers that add to -5 and multiply giving +4.
I used method (2) and got
(x – 1) * (x – 4) = 0 This is true when x- 1 or x = 4
I used method (2) and got
(x – 1) * (x – 4) = 0 This is true when x- 1 or x = 4
Checking:
Is (1)^2 -5(1) + 4 = 0 ?
1 - 5 + 4 = 0 Yes.
Is (4)^2 -5(4) + 4 = 0 ?
16 - 20 + 4 = 0 Yes.
