The y-intercept is where the line crosses the Y-axis. There are two methods of solving this question. Either you can translate the equation into the slope-intercept form (y = mx + b) or you can solve for a value of y where x = 0.
First try the slope-intercept form. This is where we solve the equation for y.
2x + 5y = 12
-2x -2x
5y = -2x + 12
/5 /5 /5
y = -2/5x + 12/5
Since the b in the form y = mx + b is the y-intercept, we find the y-intercept is 12/5
The second method we set x = 0 and solve for y.
2x + 5y = 12
2*(0) + 5y = 12
0 + 5y = 12
5y = 12
y = 12/5
Since the question says to put your answer into coordinates, you should show your answer x=0 and y=12/5 as (0,12/5)
