Good morning! Considering the s and p orbitals, the number of valence electrons will increase as you move towards the noble gasses on the right side. The transitional metals can be multivalent (different numbers of valence electrons) and do not always follow this rule as that orbital is actually below the s and p orbital positions on the atom.
