I answered this same problem for someone yesterday... lol.
Let R = # running shoes sold
Let H = # hightops sold
We want to order 144 pairs of shoes so R + H = 144
Since we sell twice as many running shoes as hightops then R = 2H
Simply substitute 2H in place of R in the first equation giving
2H + H = 144
3H = 144
H = 48
He should order 48 pairs of hightops
Since R = 2H then R = 2(48) = 96 so he should order 96 pairs of running shoes
