In algebra, like terms are more than one term or terms terms that have the same variables and powers. A simple way to understand this concept is to think of each variable being a distinctly different item. For example imagine x= apples and y= oranges. So if you were asked how many apples you had in a problem of
3y +4x =?
Well only x = apples so you only have 4 apples, or 4x.
For your problem there is only one variable so 10x-3x, is like asking 10 apples – 3 apples = 7 apples; or 7x.

This just means to combine terms with similar bases. Similar bases means in this case to have x in it. 10x-3x = 7x. Another way to answer this is if we can factor out the x from both terms creating: x(10-3) = x(7) or 7x.

This equation simply means to subtract 10x-3x, which gives you 7x.
If the equation is 10x2-3x, factor out an x, giving you x(10x-3). I hope this helps!

I must add that even though you may have the same variable, you might not add same variables raised to different powers that is 10x2 -3x , the x2 and x are unlike terms and cannot be added in a polynomial just like x any y are unlike terms.
