A 10.35g piece of copper metal was heated to 85.5 degrees C and then placed into 23.6g of water. the initial temperate of the water was 18.3 degrees C. what was the final temperature?

 

solid copper has a specific heat of 0.382J/g degrees C.

liquid water has a specific heat of 4.18J/g degrees C.

In order to answer this question you need to use the equation m(of copper) times c(specific heat of copper) times ((T(final)-T(initial)))for copper = -m(of water) times c(specific heat of water) times ((T(final)-T(initial)))for water

 

Then you solve for T(final). The T(final) of water is equal to the T(final) for copper.
