I have a mathematical word problem!

The chef mixed a seasoning that cost $3 per oz with a seasooning that cost $1.75 per oz to create a 24 oz mixture that cost $2 per oz. how many ounces of the $3 per ounce seasoning did he use?

X= number of ounces for the $3.00 mixture of seasoning

 

$3.00/OZ    + $1.75/ OZ  =   $2.00/ OZ   We are adding the seasonings together to produce the 24 OZ mixture

 

    X      +          24-X       =       24OZ     To get the missing term we will subtract what we have from X

 

100 [(3.00)(X)   +   (1.75)(24-X)]  =  [(2.00)(24)] 100   to get rid of the decimals multiply both sides by 100

 

     (300)(X)  +   (175)(24-X)  = (200)(24)   Multiply on each side, removing the parenthesis

 

      300X  +  4,200 - 175x = 4,800  Get all of the X's on one side of the equation remember to change the sign of 4,200

 

       300X - 175X  = 4,800 - 4,200   Combine Like Terms

 

       125X  =  600      Get X alone

        125       125      To get X, we will divide both sides by 125

 

          X = 4.8 OZ

 

The chef used 4.8 ounces of the $3.00 seasoning
