Keep it simple. First, name your four consecutive integers as: (x+1), (x+2), (x+3), and (x+4), whose sum is -26, so now you just write this in linear equation form:
(x+1) + (x+2) + (x+3) + (x+4) = -26
Eliminating the parentheses, you are left with:
x+1 + x+2 + x+3 + x+4 = -26
Now, just solve for x:
4x + 10 = -26
4x = -36
x = -9
And Lastly, plug your x value into your equation to find your four consecutive integers:
(-9+1) + (-9+2) + (-9+3) + (-9+4) = -26
( -8 ) + ( -7 ) + ( -6 ) + ( -5 ) = -26
So your consecutive integers are: -8, -7, -6, and -5
Hope this is clear enough.
Best,
Joseph.
