divide a line segment 80 inches long so that one part exceed by other 20 inches

Let the small segment be x inches
 
The bigger segment is x + 20 inches
 
The sum is x + x + 20 = 80
 
2x + 20 = 80
 
2x = 60, x = 30
 
So smaller segment is 30 inches and larger is 50 inches.
