Question

Senior Class from High school A filled 4 vans and 2 buses with 188 students. Senior class from High School B filled 3 vans and 4 buses with 286 students. Each van and each bus carried the same number of students. Find the number of students in each bus and each van.

3v+4b=286

multiply first equation by 2

8v+4b=376

now subtract second equation from this new one

   8v+4b=376

-  3v+4b=286

   5v=90

     v=18 students in each van

     4*18+2b=188

         72+2b=188

               2b=188-72

               2b=116

                 b=58 students in each bus
