We can make this like a ratio problem:
3 1/4 / 3 = x / 5
Now we just need to solve for x:
3 1/4 * 5 / 3 = x
15 5/4 / 3 = x
5 5/12 = x (15/3 = 5, 5/4 / 3 = 5/12)
So Terri is going to need 5 5/12 cups of chips.
Also for note, 3 * 12 = 36, not 27. That's 3 * 9.
You will get the same results if you have 3 1/4 / 36 = x / 60 if you desire to solve that ratio.
