Area of trapizoids

What is the formula for the area of trapezoids and parallelograms?I was trying to do that lesson but I got stuck.

The trick to finding the area of a parallelogram is to remember it is really just two triangles. The area of a triangle is ½ BH. If you add the area of triangle 1 and triangle 2 this will give you the area of the parallelogram. This will help you if you get stuck on a test. The actual formula for the area of a parallelogram is A = bh. The same holds true for a trapezoid. The actual formula for a trapezoid is A = 1 /2 h( b 1 + b 2 )

For the parallelogram it it A = bh.

For trapezoids it is (b₁ + b₂)h / 2.

In both cases the height is perpendicular distance between the bases.

Formula for the area A of a parallelograms with base b and height h is as follows:

          Area = base • height     ==>    A = bh

Formula for the area of a trapezoid consisting of two bases b₁ and b₂  and height h is as follows:

          Area = (1/2) • height • (base₁ + base₂)

               A = (1/2)h(b₁ + b₂)
