If $24 is post-discount, then that means it is 80% of the full price (100% - 20% = 80%).

 

24 / 80 = x / 100

24 * 100 / 80 = x

 

We can factor out a 10 from 100 and 80:

24 * 10 / 8 = x

 

We can also factor out an 8 from 24 and 8:

3 * 10 / 1 = x

3 * 10 = x

30 = x

 

So the fishing pole's original price was $30.00.
