four children A,B,C and D divide a bag of sweets. A takes 1/3 of them, B 2/5th of the remainder and the rest is equally shared between C and D. What fraction of sweets did C or D get ?

Let x = total amount

 

Amount taken by A = (1/3)x

 

Amount remaining after A takes his/her share = x - (1/3)x = (2/3)x

 

Amount taken by B = (2/5)(2/3)x = (4/15)x

 

Amount remaining after B takes his/her share = (2/3)x - (4/15)x

                                                                                = (10/15)x - (4/15)x

                                                                                  = (2/5)x
