First we need to understand the problem: What do we know? Theres 3 dozen cookies total and 6 cookies in each box. What is the question? How many boxes of cookies does Lena pack?
Next we make a plan: What do we need to do to solve this problem. I know I need to change 3 dozen so that involves multiplication first then I need to split that total into boxes with 6 in each box. The word each is a clue and also since I'm splitting them up I know I need to divide next.
Next I need to solve: 1 dozen = 12
3 x 12 = 36 cookies total
36 ÷ 6 = 6
Lena will pack 6 boxes of cookies for the fundraiser.
