How do you say, “I need help” in French ?

Well it depends to who you are talking to. There are several ways of asking for help.

I can think of a few scenarios, with many varying degrees of urgency and context.

Literally “I need help !” => “J’ai besoin d’aide"

“Help ! Help !” => "Au secours !"

This does not always mean that life is in danger, and can be used in lighthearted situations.

“Help me out here / a bit…” => “Aide moi un peu"

“Could you help me ?” => “Pourrais tu m’aider ? Pourriez vous m’aider ? "

“Help me please !” => “Aide/Aidez moi, s’il te/vous plaît !"

These are just a few… then the more informal:

“I need help… give me a hand !” => “Donne moi un coup de main ! (un coup de pouce)"

“Hey, give me a hand / help me out a bit [with this]” => “Tiens, aide moi un peu [avec ça] "

“I would need your help” => “J’aurais besoin de ton aide"
