You can solve this from the following steps
1. At 45O the horizontal vh and vertical vv (at start) components ate equal
2. vv=Sqrt(2*g*hmax) where hmax - max. height
3. The total time tair in air is twice the time tmax of reaching the hmax where tmax=Sqrt(2hmax/g)

The range L=vh tair=2vh tmax
When you combine these points you'd get the solution. I hope that would be helpful for you to solve not only this one but other projectile problems.
