Centripetal Force and Acceleration

Question

If a 120kg football player makes a turn on the football field. The player sweeps out a path that is a portion of a circle with a radius of 1.25m. The player makes a quarter of a turn around the circle in 2.0 seconds. How can I determine:

(a) the speed of the player,

(b) the acceleration of the player, and

(c) the net force acting upon the football player?

Answer 1

(a) velocity = distance / time --> total distance is the distance around a QUARTER circle here.... d = 1/4C = 1/4 2 pi r = 1/4* 2 pi *1.25

therefore velocity = (1/4*2*pi*1.25) meters / (2) seconds

(b) centripetal acceleration = v^2 / radius , so acceleration = (your answer from part a)^2 / 1.25

(c) centripetal force = mass * acceleration , so F = 120kg * (your answer from part b)
