The plans for a shed call for a rectangle floor with a perimeter of 296 ft. The length is three times the width.  Find the length and width.

Hi Robert,

 

Let length of a rectangle be x ft, width of a rectangle be w ft.

 

Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(l+w) = 296

 

l+ w= 148

 

l = 3w

 

so 3w+w =148

     4w=148

       w=37

   l = 3w= 3*37 =111

 

Length of a rectangle = 111 ft, width of a rectangle = 37 ft
