or if you prefer decimals (which are more complicated for this problem,) you can add
.8666...+ 2.1333 = 2.999...= 3.000...= 3
interesting "surprise" is that .999...= 1.000
when the digits repeat forever
proof:
x= .999...
10x = 9.999...
10x-x = 9
9x= 9
x=1
.999...= 1
