if the model plane is one foot long, how long is the actual plane?

1. A model of a C130 airplane has a scale of 1/100 

• If the model plane is one foot long, how long is the actual plane? 

On this one I thought that since it is one foot long you would multiple 1/12 × 1/100 and get 1/1200 as the answer.

• If the model's wingspan is 16 inches, how long is the actual wingspan?  I'm lost on this one too please help

When the question says that the scale is 1/100, it means that the model is 1/100 the size of the actual plane

 

In this case, ¹/₁₀₀ P = M, where P stands for plane and M stands for model. We have a value for M, so we can use that to solve for P:

¹/₁₀₀ P = 1 ft

Multiply both sides by 100:

P = 100 ft

So the plane is 100 feet long.

 

If the wingspan is 16 inches, then again we multiply by 100, and the full scale has a 1600 inch-long wingspan. If we convert inches into feet, we get 133 ¹/₃ foot-long span.
