If l x + y l = 2, then x + y = 2 or x + y = -2

 

If x + y = 2,  then y = -x + 2

If x + y = -2, then y = -x - 2

 

The graph of the given equation consists of two parallel lines with slope -1.  One of the lines has y-intercept (0,-2) and the other line has y-intercept     (0, 2).
