Viewing this as an impulse and momentum problem I started with
impulse = F × t = m × v = momentum
Then wrote
F = mv/t = (0.14 kg × 12 m/s)/(2 × 10-3 s)
and
a = F/m = (12 m/s)/(2 × 10-3 s)
which led me to the same place as the first answer posted. (In other words, just read the first answer—where everything is explained perfectly.)

Thank you for your help! We just started learning this topic so I am still getting used to the problems.10/05/23
