PHYSICS HOMEWORK QUESTION: Not sure how to solve this.

A rifle is aimed horizontally at a target 58 mm away. The bullet hits the target 2.5 cm below the aim point.


  1. What was the bullet's flight time? Neglect the air resistance.


  1. What was the bullet's speed as it left the barrel?

The second part does not seem to be correct but I do not understand why...is there another equation you can use to solve the second part? The equation you used seems unfamiliar to me.

The second equation is also from kinematics: x=xo+vot+(1/2)at^2, except the acceleration in the x direction is zero. So the equation simplifies to what I typed above. Do they want it rounded to 3 decimal places, perhaps?
