For most of human history, slavery was not based on race or ethnicity. If you were a slave, it was usually for one of the following reasons: 1) you went into to debt and had been sold into slavery to pay it off, 2) you were kidnapped and sold into slavery, or 3) your city-state or kingdom lost a war and you were captured and made a slave. Sometimes this led to people of different racial or ethnic groups enslaving each other. But again, there were other factors at play.
If you're looking for a more modern example, you might consider the Spanish treatment of Native Americans. Initially, the Spanish used Native Americans as an attempt to utilize the local population as a work force. We also see this in the Philippines, the Dutch in the Congo, etc.
