Experienced UMD Tutor Providing Expertise in Various Subjects
Hi!
As someone who had their first experience coding in freshman year of high school I can confidently say that I hated it! My teacher didn't know how to teach C++, his quizzes were extremely hard (you either got a 0 or a 100!), and all of my friends seemed to know so much more than me. I was discouraged at the start but that all changed when I went to my senior showcase where I saw kids coding in all sorts of languages and they were creating all sorts of innovative projects. I fell in love with coding once again.
Like Brad said, it's important to find out if you love coding first of all - if theres something in it that makes you passionate. Maybe it's creating a project to help hospitals or even game development. Once you find this you have to find support during your journey and learn at your own pace. There are amazing tutors on this site and resources out there that can help you all the way! The most important part of this entire process though is to have fun! As a junior at UMD I always try and have the most fun while coding and enjoy learning about the intricacies of what I am doing. If you love it it will come easy! Hopefully this helped, let me know if you had any specific questions!
