Simplify the difference quotient, f(x + h) - f(x)/h, using the Binomial Theorem

f(x) = x^3

The answer I got was 3x^2 but webassign says it’s wrong

The question probably should say as h approaches 0. In that case you are just finding the derivative. You are right; webassign is wrong.

Since there is no limit as h->0 as part of the problem the final answer would be 3x^2+3xh+h^2. Now if you do take the limit as h->0 you do get 3x^2.
