Linear equations are defined to have a constant rate of change. In this case, our rate of change, or growth is 2200 people each year.
We will start with a population of 24,000 and then increase the population by adding 2200 people each year, our equation becomes;
P = 24000 + 2200x
where P is the total population, and x is the number of years after 2003.
To find the population in 2009, use the same equation above.
P = 24000 + 2200x
P = 24000 + 2200(6)
P = 37200
