 2x + 3y = 2

 

We can use elimination technique.  Adding both the equations yield

 

9y = 8

y = 8/9

 

Multiplying equation 2 by 2 and subtracting from equation 1 gives

-6x = 2

x = -1/3

Check: 2/3 + 48/9 = 54/9 = 6

 

For the second problem x = 727/4.13 from the first equation.  Substitute this value of x in the second equation and solve for y

y = 1/3(18.5188-6.92*727/4.13) = -399.84

x = 176.02
