Lola...hello...your question is intriguing. If you are allowed to use a calculator,
Finding the square root of a number is simple...using the calculator....enter in the
number you're trying to find the square root, let's say 49. Okay, enter in 49...you'll
see that on your screen. then press the square root key...that has this symbol...√¯¯
usually the answer is on the screen...if not...then press enter and you should see
the value '7' appear on our screen. Try it with other numbers. I don't have to tell you
that the square root is a number that when multiplied by itself will give a specific value.
let's take the value 8.. 8 × 8 = 64 correct?? We say that the square of 8 is 64 and
then we also say the square root of 64 is 8. Got that? Try it with other number...I'll
give you a few examples...starting with 1...so this is a number squared:
Okay...what if you don't have a calculator. Well all I can say is draw up a square
root chart...very much like a multiplication table. On the top line...starting with 1
and go...let's say 2. this will be the horizontal line. Do the same with a vertical line
at a right angle, but go to 5. Now, just like a multiplication table starting multiply
vertical line in the 1's column by 1...so there will be 1...2...3...4...5, because any number
times one will be that number. Now in the 2's column...you're going to multiply each
of the vertical numbers by the themselves ...so each number is squared...example:
1...4...9...16...25 this is 1...2...3....4...and 5 multiplied by itself. see if you can make a
larger table...on the vertical line say 1 to 12...and on the horizontal line...go as many
times as you can...WITHOUT A CALCULATOR....practice with this and you will become
familiar with each number squared. Good luck
