Thermal radiation (gas stove radiation) and mobile phone radiation are both types of electromagnetic radiation and as such they do not need a medium to travel (they travel in a vacuum). They travel (through a vacuum) at the speed of light and are synchronized oscillations of electric and magnetic fields. They differ in that they occur at different frequencies, mobile phone radiation is a lower frequency (longer wave length) than thermal radiation.

Mobile phones will work behind glass because the EM radiation travels through glass.
