Frequency distribution

Suppose you have data for the starting salaries of your graduating class, but included in the class are two students who become professional basketball players, whose salaries are many times larger than anyone else’s.  Which measure of central tendency best measures of the class, and why?

The answer is the median, because the mean can be affected by outliers and the mode is simply the value that occurs most often, which doesn't necessarily have to be near the center of the distribution.  The median is the central value of the distribution, that is there are an equal number of values above the median and below the median.
