I am having an issue with this question...bad wording?

It seems a bit unclear.  I guess it is

 

sp= cost    + 42% of sp where sp is selling price, or

 

x = $1260 + 0.42 x  where x is the selling price.

 

Solving

 

           x =  $1260 + 0.42 x

 

           x =  $1260 + 0.42 x

- 0.42x  =            -  0.42 x

______      ____________

  0.58x   = $1260

 

  0.58x   = $1260

  ------      ----------

  0.58         0.58

 

        x   = $2172.413 (for a s.p. of $2172.42)  I think.
