The maximum gauge pressure in a hydraulic lift is 17.0 atm.  What is the largest-size vehicle (kg) it can lift if the diameter of the output line is 23.0 cm?

Knowns: Pressure=17.0atm or approximently 1722.53kpa

Area= ((Diameter/2)^2)pi = ((0.23m/2)^2)pi = 0.04

Force= Presure*Area = 71.57KN => 71,570N

The hydraulic is directed up while the weight of the truck is directed downwards, and since theres no acceleration the sum of forces should equal 0. ∑f = Hydraulic -Truck weight = 0 => 71570N = Mass*gravity =>

71570N/ 9.81m/s^2 = Mass = 7295.18kg
