for f(x) = y = x as an example:
shift left 7 stretch factor of 3, down 8
shift left 7 y=x+7 same as shift up 7
then vertical stretch by factor of 3, same as horizontal compression by factor of 1/3
y = 3(x+7) = 3x + 21
shift down 8, same as rightward shift 8
y = 3x+21 -8
y = 3x +13
This depends on the equation of the function being transformed. A left shift will add to the value of x. EX. x2 changes to (x+7)2.
A vertical stretch would multiple that function by the factor so (x+7)2 changes to 3(x+7)2.
And a down shift subtracts from the function. EX 3(x+7)2 changes to 3(x+7)2-8.
