1) Auggie starts school. He begins school as introverted and shy because of his differences, but by the end learns that his differences are what attracted his true friends to him. ("Why fit in when you were born to stand out?")
2) Auggie becomes friends with Jack and Summer. August learns to trust.
3) August overhears Jack gossiping about him. Auggie feels betrayed by his friend.
4) Julian spreads rumors about Auggie. August becomes a subject of ridicule at school causing him to feel sad and seculded.
5) Jack takes up for Auggie by punching Julian. Jack realizes that he really wants to be Auggie's friend and knows that he was wrong to gossip about Auggie. Jack apologizes to Auggie, and they become friends again.
6) August gets hearing aids. August is afraid that more people will make fun of him because of his very visible hearing aids.
7) August gets bullied on a school trip. He is chased through the woods by older kids from another school. His hearing aids get broken, but Jack and some of August's classmates unexpectedly stand up for him and help him.
8) Auggie wins an award at the award ceremony at the end of the school. The principal presents Auggie with an award for showing strength. August receives a standing ovation from the whole school. He felt happy, included, and accepted.
