asked 07/18/22Can a flying squirrel and a no fly squirrel such as a red squirrel breed?
I know that generally members of the same genus can breed to produce sterile offspring, is this the case with squirrels?

Squirrels belong to the family Sciuridae, which has a high degree of genetic diversity. Flying squirrels are further divided into the subfamily Scurinae and then again into the tribe Pteromyini. Even through artificial means, the genetic dissimilarity between these 2 groups is so great that viable offspring are unlikely to be produced.
